On the southern flank of Gunung Salak, barely an hour from the city, three waterfalls hide in a pocket of pine and rainforest. Curug Nangka is the star of the trio, and the trail linking it to Curug Daun and Curug Kawung is short, shaded and gloriously cool — the antidote to a humid Bogor afternoon.
Why Curug Nangka
It is the sweet spot between accessible and wild. You do not need to be a hiker; the main falls sit maybe 15–20 minutes from the car park along a stone path that follows the river. Yet the moment the canopy closes over you and you hear the water, the city feels a world away.
Keep an eye on your snacks: a troop of long-tailed macaques patrols the area and they are practiced thieves. Admire them, do not feed them.
The three falls
- Curug Nangka — the tallest and most powerful, with a wide splash pool
- Curug Daun — a gentle, wider curtain, good for a careful paddle
- Curug Kawung — the quietest, a little further up the trail
You can see all three in a relaxed half-day. The path is well trodden but slick after rain, so mind your footing on the wet rocks near each pool.
Getting there from HEBE
From central Bogor, point your driver toward Ciapus and the Gunung Salak Endah gate. It is around 45–60 minutes by car or motorbike depending on traffic; a Grab or a chartered ride is easiest since public transport thins out near the top. Expect a modest conservation-area entry fee of roughly IDR 20,000–30,000 per person plus a small vehicle charge.

What to bring
- Sandals or shoes with grip that you do not mind getting wet
- A dry bag or ziplock for your phone near the spray
- A light jacket — the altitude keeps things pleasantly cool
- Snacks and water, but eat them away from the monkeys
- Small cash for parking, the gate, and warung noodles on the way out

Curug Nangka is only the gateway to the wider Gunung Salak Endah area. Push a little further up the same road and you reach Curug Cigamea, Curug Seribu and a scatter of hot springs, each with its own gate and small fee. Salak Endah rewards a full day if you have the legs and a driver willing to wait.
The whole zone sits inside a protected forest, so the air stays cool and the birdlife is genuinely good. Bring binoculars if you have them, and go slowly between the falls rather than trying to tick off all of them — two done well beats five done in a rush.
Go on a weekday and after 8am the light filters through the pines and you might have Curug Kawung entirely to yourself.
Round it off warm
On the drive back, stop at a roadside warung for hot bandrek or a bowl of noodles — the classic mountain reward. You will be back in Bogor by mid-afternoon, damp, happy, and ready for a nap in a cool dorm at HEBE Hostel.
